There's a new Klopcic in the family!

This is going to be a brief blog, so I apologize to everyone in advance that was waiting for a longer one about all the wedding and honeymoon details. Suffice to say we had a fabulous wedding even though it rained! And Scott and I had an even more fabulous honeymoon! Here are a few photos for everyone to enjoy! Much love to everyone! Almost to the end!

21 days to go and counting! The time certainly has flown by as I'm staring graduation and Wedding day in the eye!

Exactly 1 week from today I will be a graduate (again) with my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Even though I have a long haul of 3,000 hours to accrue before I can apply for licensure, I am glad that this part of the journey is finally coming to a close!! I've spent two years of hard work in the MFT program at Chico State, and as everyone close to me knows, it's been a long and challenging personal and professional journey. I am excited that I will finally be an alumni for the last time! That is until I decide to go for my PhD!! I'm sure Scott will love that! Hahah!

Exactly 3 weeks from today Scott and I will be tying the knot! I can't believe how quickly the time has flown! It feels like just yesterday that we were engaged and now we're on the short side of Wedding Day! I'm winding up all the last minute details as well, so I'm hoping (and praying) that everything comes together without a hitch, and that the groom shows up on time ;) I cannot wait to see everyone that is coming to the wedding and I will miss all of those who aren't able to come, but who I was looking forward to meeting (Tom and Chris and Paulette and Tim!! You will be missed!) I look forward to meeting all of you sometime soon!

The Aftermath

Well we've received many requests for pictures of our backyard efforts. Unfortunately we didn't take before pictures so you can't see how bad the yard really was. Here are the final product pictures though!

Reclaiming our Backyard

It has been awhile since the last time I made a post on our blog so here goes. Yesterday after a few weeks of procrastination and a few months of ignoring the state of the backyard Jenn and I went about reclaiming our yard from the dog. As much as we love Apollo, we did not really love the "landscaping" changes he has made to our backyard. It should be said that he is not by any means a destructive dog. The majority of the damage in the backyard was to the grass and that was likely caused by a combination of his normal running and playing along with the softer ground due to the rain. There was also the issue of getting rid of a rather large, rather ugly and mostly dead plant that had become an eyesore.

Yesterday started off with a trip to OSH where we really took advantage of their "we pay the sales tax" promotion. Armed with turf builder, seed, fertilizer and a bevvy of tools we prepared to tackle this long overdue project. While we were there we also found some fancy new outdoor lights to replace the ugly brass lights at the garage and front door. After a 5 minute search for the breaker box we got the new lights installed pretty easily and we love the new look.

Finally it was time to face the backyard. First up was the removal of the demon plant. We had previously trimmed this plant way back and Apollo had done his part by making the plant his personal bathroom. Even though it was mostly dead it was still quite large and as we found out the roots were quite attached to underlayment that the previous Owner had installed everywhere. We have had other encounters with this underlayment. Most notably when Apollo realized there was something underneath the gravel and took it upon himself to rip it out for us. This time however the underlayment proved to be quite the foe. It was preventing us from getting a shovel underneath the plant and into the roots. So first we had to find the underlayment and start making cuts into it. This was difficult enough as it was covered in dirt and rocks. Once we got part of it up we were able to begin getting the shovel under the plant. Slowly and methodically we worked our way around the plant and finally we were able to uproot it. I'm not sure how long it took, seems like at least an hour. It was a good workout at least. It looks so much better now that the plant is gone too. We still have to deal with the demon plant's brother on the other side of the yard, but we'll save that for another weekend.

Next up was the yard itself. First up we put up a temporary wood fence to keep Apollo out. It has yet to be seen how he will adjust to his play area being reduced to about 1/5 of the size he is used to. I'm sure he'll get used to it quick enough. Once the dog was blocked out we went about raking the damaged area which was about 3/4 of the yard, spreading seed, fertilizer and turf builder. We are hopeful that we'll get some new growth soon and we can reclaim the yard before this summer! All of this in preparation for next years landscaping project which will include expanding our patio area so we can get a table and an umbrella for some outdoor entertaining.

So despite the sore muscles today, yesterday proved to be quite productive.

My Minor Midafternoon Misadventure

I know I promised everyone a new blog theme for the next few weeks, but alas, I've hit a set-back. Not the normal type of set-back either. You see I've actually been working on some of my big projects and have been nailing down those last minute wedding details that always seem to creep up on you. So in the midst of all this busy-ness, I decided to have one calm afternoon. I had received The Duchess on Netflix, it was pretty good too!, and my good friend MaryAlice was going to come over and watch it with me and we were going to make spaghetti and meatballs, an all American classic, for the boys (i.e. her husband, and Scott) for dinner.

The afternoon started out calm and collected, we got the sauce on the stove and the meatballs in the oven. However, this pivotal moment would change the course of the next few hours.

The meatballs, while delicious and juicy, were not put on a rimmed cookie sheet before they were placed in the oven. My folly. The oil and juices from the meat oozed onto the bottom of the oven, creating some smoke in the kitchen and living room. Luckily, we were able to rescue the meatballs and put them in the sauce before the situation, at least at that point, got too far out of hand.

By this time, MaryAlice and I are contently relaxing in the living room, watching our film. The sauce is simmering, and with what I perceived as a stroke of genuis at the time, decided to turn the oven onto the cleaning cycle since the bottom was dirty from meatball juice. ***Preface*** I have never owned or lived in a place that has a self cleaning oven. If I have, I have never used it, and I wasn't really familiar with how the whole process worked. Armed with my less that brilliant knowledge, I kicked the oven onto the clean cycle and locked it up tight and it was back to the movie and relaxing on the couch. Not 30 minutes later, a funny smell and smoke alarms beeping prompted MaryAlice and I to investigate the situation in the kitchen. Low and behold, to what do our eyes we see, but FLAMES! Big, gigantic flames, gleefully dancing behind the glass in the oven. I think I must've gasped in dis-belief and sent up several quick and fervent prayers to God, but quickly I sprang into action. "We have a fire extinguisher, I'll grab that!" I said, while running sightly manic towards the laundry room, the residence of the extinguisher. I pulled the pin with gusto and was prepared to throw open the door and spray the fire to death! Did I forget to mention that black smoke was beginning to billow out of my oven at this time? Yeah, SCARY!

As I found out, the oven would not open, and I couldn't pull/press the handle on the fire extinguisher. At this point at a loss, and receiving silent support from MaryAlice, who was prepared to run in the event of an emergency, I decided to call 911. This meant fire trucks, and lots of noise and commotion on our quite, silent street. I grabbed Apollo and the phone, and MaryAlice grabbed her purse, flute and dinner. Armed with the essentials we walked out to the front porch to await the arrival of the firemen. By this time it was rounding 5 o'clock and I had to make the phone call to Scott telling him that he shouldn't be alarmed to see a fire truck in the driveway because I only set the oven on fire and everything else was ok. To this statement Scott simply replied "Mmm.....ok."

Needless to say, my midafternoon misadventure wound up with a burnt oven, that still needs to be cleaned, but sustained no other damage, thank goodness!, and a friendly visit from the local firemen, and an adrenaline rush and crazy adventure that I'm not likely to forget soon. On the plus side, MaryAlice saved the dinner and we cooked up some spaghetti and enjoyed our dinner like we would on any other "normal" evening. What I learned from this event, be very very very careful when using the cleaning cycle on your oven, and always use a rimmed cookie sheet when cooking meat!

A new theme....

Because I have so much time on my hands as well as an increasing desire to postpone those things which I will still have to do...i.e. my master's AR, I've decided to start a new blog "theme."

I know that many of you read our blog from other parts in the United States and aren't as familiar with the area that Scott and I live in. More specifically, Chico. I thought that our blog would be the perfect vehicle to show everyone what our lives are like, at least through pictures and stuff, plus it's also a great way for everyone to get to know us a little bit better.

I thought I'd start by traveling around Chico and taking photos of our favorite haunts and some of our favorite places to be. I often find that Chico is full of remarkable little spots of beauty and fun that give it such a wonderful charm.

Hopefully I'll be able to add in interesting little antecdotes along the way as well.

A Toast to Us on Valentine's Day

I had originally posted this on Facebook, which I totally recommend for family a friends, since it's a great way to keep in touch and stay updated with each other's lives, but I also thought this would be a great posting for a day devoted to love and couple-dom. It's also Apollo's First Birthday so I'll post some then and now photos for everyone to enjoy as well!

♥ What are your middle names? Michael and Christina

♥ How long have you been together? Almost 2 and a half years.

♥ How long did you know each other before you started dating? I would say about a month or two months before we were official. We kind of eased into it, and then we set with each other by March.

♥ Who asked who out? Well we both kind of asked each other out to the bars when we first met, but he asked me out on our first official date.

♥ How old are each of you?He is 28 and I am 24.

♥ Whose siblings do/ did you see the most?Probably his. Sandi has visited us more, but I think that's because she is more available that my siblings, since my sisters all have families and live in areas that are farther away so traveling is more difficult for them. Plus, we have a blast when Sandi visits.

♥ Do you have any children together?Only Apollo. He's a four legged freakazoid that always keeps us on our toes. But we love him!

♥ What about pets?Apoolo again fits this category. He can be gross, but definitely NOT as gross as Calvin. Sorry Lala.

♥ Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?Hmm....I think grad school and wedding planning have been pretty tough on us, but we've learned new ways of coping that have really allowed us to succeed as a couple.

♥ Did you go to the same school?Nope! Scott went to Cal Poly SLO and I am going to Chico State. Only one more semester woot!

♥ Are you from the same home town?Nooooo...not by a long shot. He grew up in several places before settling in Paradise, CA, and I grew up in Alaska and Southern Cali.

♥ Who is the smartest?Hmm....how can I answer this and not get in trouble? ;) I think we're both exceptionally smart. I think it's one of the reasons why we get along so well. I think I am more circular and abstract at times, and I think he is more linear, mathematical and rational.

♥ Who is the most sensitive?I think both of us can be. I would probably say him, but he would probably say me! :)

♥ Where do you eat out most as a couple? We love sushi! That's probably our favorite food to eat out together. If it's not sushi than its probably mexican or seafood.

♥ Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?Chico to Yosemite to Santa Barbara. But we're going to be traveling to the Caribbean for our honeymoon and that will take the cake as longest trip!

♥ Who has the craziest exes? Probably me. I have more, at least that he would count. But he has the "crazy" girl in Sacramento. hehehe. :)

♥ Who has the worst temper?Neither one of us really has a temper, but I would probably say me. I get more vocal and arrogant.

♥ Who does the cooking?Probably I do more, but he makes some AWESOME tri-tip and quesadillas that are TO DIE FOR!

♥ Who is more social? I would totally say me, all the way, even though I can be pretty shy at times too.

♥ Who is the neat-freak? Him, but not by a large margin. I'm particular about certain areas, and he's more particular in general.

♥ Who is the more stubborn? Me. All the way.

♥ Who hogs the bed? Me. I'm a sprawler, and a blanket hog apparently :P

♥ Who wakes up earlier?He does more frequently, but I can get moving faster sometimes.

♥ Where was your first date? Johnny's in Chico.

♥ Who has the bigger family?Me, by a HUGE margin!

♥ Do you get flowers often?No, not really. But I've gotten some beautiful bouquets in the past.

♥ How do you spend the holidays?Having fun! This year we went to my parents house, and his family was able to be there too, but I think we'll be starting a yearly rotation. So those of you who want to be on the travel list, better sign up quick!

♥ Who is more jealous? I don't think either one of us usually are, but I think he gets btiten by the green bug more often.

♥ How long did it take to get serious?Not too long. We dated for over a year before we got engaged though.

♥ Who eats more? Scott, by far. My sister used to always ask how I grew so tall when I never ate anything. I agree with Will about Lala, she could eat her way out of anywhere! :):) Love ya sis!

♥ Who does/ did the laundry?Neither one of us like it, so we each do it, infrequently. He goes by the sock rule.

♥ Who’s better with the computer? Totally him!

♥ Who drives when you are together?He usually does, unless the road is windy and twisty and then I get to drive. We switch off on long caravans.
